Extracorporeal Shockwave (ESWT)
Non-invasive stimulation for tissue repair
What is Extracorporeal shockwave therapy?

High energy sound wave, characterized by rapid rise time, slight cavitation dip and clearly
defined focal area. Sound energy is released into the tissue and causes physical stimulus to the
cells, which then releases cytokines and growth factors that aid in healing.
Shockwave will reintroduce the inflammatory phase to begin healing on chronic issues, such as
osteoarthritis.

Conditions We Treat with ESWT:

-
Disorganized or delayed healing of fractures
-
Tendonitis
-
Osteoarthritis
-
Malformation of the elbow and hip (dysplasias)
-
Sesamoiditis
-
Chronic back pain

How it works:

-
Stimulate neovascularization (new blood vessel formation)
-
Increase cellular metabolism
-
Promote tissue regeneration
-
Reduce pain by altering nerve signaling
-
Break down calcifications and fibrotic tissue

What a treatment session looks like:

-
Treatment area prepped with ultrasound gel, if your pet has a thick coat we may ask to shave a small area to improve penetrations
-
Shockwave probe is placed over the target tissue
-
Sessions typically last 5–10 minutes
-
Most patients enjoy this treatment and will typically lay without restraint while it is being administered
-
Typically this treatment is weekly for 4 weeks followed by a reassessment with our rehabilitation practitioner
