Underwater Treadmill/Hydrotherapy

Gentle, low-impact exercise that builds strength and mobility.

What is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy uses the natural properties of water — buoyancy, resistance, and warmth — to create a safe, low-impact environment where pets can move comfortably. The underwater treadmill allows controlled exercise in water, giving the benefits of walking or jogging without putting excess stress on joints.

Why It Helps

  • Buoyancy reduces weight-bearing stress, making it easier for pets with painful joints or weakness to exercise.

  • Resistance strengthens muscles and improves cardiovascular fitness while minimizing the risk of injury.

  • Warm water promotes circulation, relaxes muscles, and helps manage pain and stiffness.

  • Controlled environment (speed, depth, session length) allows us to tailor therapy to each pet’s needs and progress.

Conditions We Treat with Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is used for a wide range of cases, including:

  • Post-surgical recovery (orthopedic or neurologic surgery)

  • Arthritis and degenerative joint disease

  • Neurologic conditions (IVDD, nerve injuries, spinal issues)

  • Muscle weakness or atrophy

  • Weight management and fitness conditioning

  • Injury prevention and performance training for athletic dogs

  • Senior pets with stiffness or mobility loss

What a Session Looks Like

  • Your pet walks into the treadmill chamber where water gradually rises to the appropriate level.

  • The treadmill is started at a comfortable pace tailored to your pet’s condition.

  • Our rehabilitation team monitors movement, comfort, and progress throughout.

  • Sessions are short at first (often 5–10 minutes) and gradually increased as strength improves.

  • Most pets adapt quickly and many enjoy their “pool time.”

Benefits You May Notice

  • Easier movement and improved gait

  • Increased strength and stamina

  • Reduced pain and stiffness

  • More willingness to walk, play, and engage at home

  • Faster recovery after surgery or injury
